FIELD TRIP TO TRINCO

FIELD TRIP TO TRINCO

Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) plays the most prominent role by imparting professional training for both Officers and Senior / Junior ratings in Sri Lanka Navy (SLN). The Academy is situated within the picturesque Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee. Trincomalee is considered as one of the best natural harbours in the world with rich history of maritime affiliation.

 day 1: 2017/12/09
We started our journey at early morning 3.30 am in our university.we had two buses for our journey. So after some enjoyable time with our friends. In bus we were singing sinhala songs and Tamil songs. When we reached Kandalai tank and stopped our bus then we took some photos.

then our activities started

First activity was we were separated into four groups and i was in team Delta. Then what happened was we asked to select 8 members in each groups and there was a small square which was tucked with two bamboos and placed it as the square comes in the middle with little bit of high from floor and we were asked to go into the square without touching and if any part of our body touched the square then we were out and once again start  from the first. This is the first activity and we did it with much more interestingly and happily. Then an officer told us the plus and the minus of our group and he especially mentioned that our team wasn't had a unique leader and every body take the leadership and that was the big mistake we did and very quickly we understand our mistake and appointed a leader for the next activity.

High Voltage Line
This is the first Group activity we did.for that we divide 4 teams for one team there is 17 members .our group name is Alpha. In this activity we have to cross Metal square that tide with rope we have to go through the square with out touch it.for one time one member and only one can help to across that member.from 17 team member we select 12 members for this challenge and  we have to cross that one 5 mins time frame.
finally our team 10 can cross the square on that time and team Alpha is the 2nd of that event.

Marble Pipe
This event we have to pass the marble with the given pipe.12 Team members selected and those who selected they have to hold the pipe and through the pipe we have to send marble with out down it.and need to go far as we can without down it.if some one down it have to come from beginning .our team is the runner up from that event but that skills we got is amazing.

Block Train
This is the my favorite event.because it needs our unity as one.firstly they give us 10 wood and we have to put that wood block each of our middle we have to hold and we have to pass final line.that was and hard event it make us happy.that event also we are the first.

Ball Pass
This event we have to pass the ball from cloth without touch the volley ball and opposite side one have to catch the ball.and we catch  6 ball and win that event.

Day 02 -> 12/10/2017
This is day two. we all got up early in the morning and at 7;30 am we went to take the breakfast then we was arranged by the officers.

After we finished the breakfast we were once again separated into three groups and this time an unimaginable activity we had. that is we had a map and a compass and we asked to reached the elephant point by using the map and the compass and its 2.5 km distance. so first the officers taught us how to use the compass and they came for support us.Then we move towards the final destination with our team. when we walked suddenly we saw a person who severely injured ( to train us ) and then we take steps very slowly to secure him and some of the members didn't take much serious and laugh and we poured him water but unfortunately he was died ( acted as died ). then the officer who acted was got up and points out the mistakes which we did and then we continued our journey and finally we reached the destination and had a good time their and relaxed for a while.

After the relaxation we walked to the Naval museum and saw a lot their. The components which were damaged in the time of second world war and in the time of war which happened more the 3 decades in Sri Lanka.

Finally after watched the museum we went to Sniper training center and had our lunch their and thanks the officer for their dedications for us and finally we nearly at 3:30 pm we took bus to university and danced for songs in bus  then at 10:30 pm we reached our university with some unique memories and experiences.

Table Ethics & Etiquette

Table Ethics & Etiquette

We went to Sri lanaka institute of hotel management and Tourism as a filed visit. The Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management (SLITHM) is the only Government approved premier Institute in Sri Lanka, which was established by the Government in 1964 to train young men and women in the complex field of Hospitality and Travel Industry.

Table manners are important in both professional and social situations, so it’s a good idea to know some basics. Using proper etiquette at the table will also help you socially and professionally in a restaurant or in someone’s home. It’s really important to know table manners as university undergraduates because we most likely to get in to work with high level people. Which it’s essential to learn basics of  Table Ethics & Etiquette.

To learn those things, we went to the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management. It was an interesting place. First we were given instructions about how to behave and improve your personality in a table. Then after that the lecture has moved on to table ethics.

NAPKIN ETIQUETTE
At informal meals, place the napkin in your lap immediately upon seating. During formal occasions, before unfolding the napkin, wait for the hostess to remove her napkin from the table and unfold it in her lap.

  1. Place the napkin in your lap upon seating.
  2. When leaving the table temporarily, put the napkin on your chair.
  3. At the meal's end, fold your napkin and place it to the left of your place setting.

How do you hold a fork?
HANDLING UTENSILS

Proper table etiquette may vary depending on where you are. There are two traditional Western schools of eating with a fork and knife: the European "continental" style, and the American "cut-and-switch" or "zig-zag" style.[1] However, the American version may have actually begun several hundred years ago in France. In most modern settings, however, it doesn't much matter how you hold the fork as long as you're able to eat efficiently.
THE TABLE SETTING

Place setting

Informal settings generally have fewer utensils and dishes but use a layout based on more formal settings. Utensils are arranged in the order and according to the manner in which the diner will use them. In the West, forks, plate, butter knife, and napkin generally are placed to the left of the dinner plate, and knives, spoons, stemware and tumblers, cups, and saucers to the right. (By contrast, formal settings in Armenia place the fork to the right of the dinner plate and informal settings in Turkey place the fork to the right of the dinner plate if not accompanied by a knife) Sauce-boats and serving dishes, when used, either are placed on the table or, more formally, may be kept on a side table.

Informal
At an informal setting, fewer utensils are used and serving dishes are placed on the table. Sometimes the cup and saucer are placed on the right side of the spoon, about 30cm or 12 inches from the edge of the table. Often, in less formal settings, the napkin should be in the wine glass. However, such objects as napkin rings are very rare in the United Kingdom, Spain, Mexico, or Italy.

Formal
A formal table setting for one person.Utensils are placed inward about 20cm or 8 inches from the edge of the table, with all placed either upon the same invisible baseline or upon the same invisible median line. Utensils in the outermost position are to be used first (for example, a soup spoon or a salad fork, later the dinner fork and the dinner knife). The blades of the knives are turned toward the plate. Glasses are placed an inch (2.5 cm) or so above the knives, also in the order of use: white wine, red wine, dessert wine, and water tumbler.

SOUP ETIQUETTE
Hold the soup spoon by resting the end of the handle on your middle finger, with your thumb on top. Dip the spoon sideways at the near edge of the bowl, then skim away from you. Sip from the side of the spoon. To retrieve the last spoonful of soup, slightly tip the bowl away from you.

SEATING ETIQUETTE
the guest of honor should sit in the best seat at the table. Usually that is one with the back of the chair to the wall. Once the guest of honor's seat is determined, the host should sit to her left. Other people are then offered seats around the table.

WE LEARNED LOT OF THINGS

This is time to do PPD

LATEST SOFTWARE ENGINEERING TRENDS

There are lots of IT related degrees in Sri Lanka; to shine or get good job in these huge crowd we have to know what are the new trends going on the software industry & what the industry expecting from the Degree holders. This session conducted by  Hsenid mobiles one of the best mobile service solutions in Sri Lanka.
There are two persons come from the company one HR manager of Hsenid mobiles she talked about their company and  their structure and services. They are offer internships for our seniors. she told about what are expecting from candidate. Those information help us when we prepare for our next year interns.
The next person is a Software Engineer from the industry He talk about what are the new software trends in the industry and he gave some advises from his experiences.

Advantages of using open source
The benefits of open source is tremendous and has gained huge popularity in the field of IT in recent years. This is mainly because the advantages of open-source software is that it's free to use – its greatest advantage. As it is developed by a non-profit community, it has some disadvantages as well.Open-source software is free to use, distribute, and modify. It has lower costs, and in most cases this is only a fraction of the cost of their proprietary counterparts.

Open-source software is more secured as the code is accessible to everyone. Anyone can fix bugs as they are found, and users do not have to wait for the next release. The fact that is continuously analyzed by a large community produces secure and stable code.Open source is not dependent on the company or author that originally created it. Even if the company fails, the code continues to exist and be developed by its users. Also, it uses open standards accessible to everyone; thus, it does not have the problem of incompatible formats that exist in proprietary software.Lastly, the companies using open-source software do not have to think about complex licensing models and do not need anti-piracy measures like product activation or serial number

Applied Mobility
Meet consumer expectations, increase productivity and enhance competitive value with a mobile-enabled business. Applied mobile applications give your entire staff anytime, anywhere access to the client, prospect and sales information they need to do business more effectively.

Social computing
Social computing is the collaborative and interactive aspect of online behavior. The term can be understood in contrast to personal computing, which describes the behavior of isolated users.Elements of social computing include blogs, wikis, Twitter,  instant messaging, multiplayer gaming and open source development, as well as social networking and social bookmarking sites. Social computing is closely related to the concept of web 2.0, which can be thought of as the framework of applications supporting the processes of social computing.
Social computing within an organization can empower and motivate employees and, as a consequence, create benefit for the business.
so these are important facts that we learnt on that day we must be really thankful to the madam sarasi and Hsenid mobile to conducting us as a helpful lecture.
